Artist's book by Nele von Mengershausen
Inspired by "One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji", the masterpiece of the Japanese woodcut artist Hokusai, Nele von Mengershausen's book is woven through with a Far Eastern grace and lightness. The artist combines the study of nature on her home mountain with surreal ideas and a preference for Eastern pictorial design. She thus attunes the viewer's gaze to a new perception of the supposedly old familiar, as if one were suddenly seeing an old friend with new eyes.
Selected pages from the sketchbooks were printed as facsimiles together with texts by Nele von Mengershausen in high-quality offset and attractively designed by bookbinders. The edition is 250 copies, of which 100 copies are special editions, each equipped with a signed original etching printed by the artist on Fabriano handmade paper.
